Digital Flexor Tenosynovitis

Brief Review:

  • Tenosynovitis of a digital flexor tendon, also called “trigger finger,” is quite common
  • Usually, a painful palpable nodule is present
  • Radiographs and other diagnostic tests are not needed to make an accurate diagnosis
  • Treatment options include
    • Antiinflammatory medications
    • Modification of activities
    • Ice
    • Massage
    • Stretching of the flexor tendons
    • Gentle grip strength exercises
    • Corticosteroid injections
    • Surgery: in patients with frequent recurrence
