Olecranon Bursitis Brief Review:
- A common cause of painless elbow swelling
- Commonly described as “a golf ball” or “goose egg”
- Diagnostic studies are generally not necessary to make a diagnosis of
- Olecranon bursitis.
Treatment:
- Compression, ice, and avoidance of impact at the olecranon
- NSAIDs
- Aspiration of the bursa
- Corticosteroid injection
- Corticosteroids should never be injected if infection is a possibility.
- Infected bursitis:
- Oral antibiotics
- Local incision and drainage
